insurance covers a wide variety of materials,

| Home |
Homeowners
insurance covers loss to your property -- the dwelling, your
personal contents, appurtenant structures (garages) and loss
of use. In addition, personal liability and medical expense
is part of the policy. Some companies will allow you to include
your boats, personal articles and recreation vehicles. you
may have to purchase separate poicies for additional homes
or rental properties. Often older homes or rentals will be
insured on a fire policy. |
Personal
Articles |
This coverage insures
unique items such as jewelry, furs, collections, guns, silverware,
cameras, bicycles, fine arts, golfing equipment and musical
instruments. These items can be scheduled at a listed amount
and insured with broader coverage than normally provided in
the standard homeowner's policy. By scheduling these items,
an exact description is given along with a value. Appraisals
are required on most items as well as serial numbers (if applicable).
Depending on the company, these items will either be added
to the home policy or will have a policy of their own. |
| Auto |
Auto insurance applies
to private passenger automobiles, campers, trailers, utility
trailers, and antique and/or collector vehicles. In some
instances, motorcycles are also covered. We have outlined
the coverages most commonly purchased:
Bodily
Injury |
Covers bodily harm,
sickness, or disease (including death) which the insured
becomes legally responsible because of an auto accident.
The insurance company will settle or defend as the consider
appropriate. |
Property
Damage |
Covers
physical injury to, destruction of, or loss of use of
tangible property. |
Uninsured
Motorist Liability |
Covers
bodily injury damages to you caused by an uninsured
motorist. |
Underinsured
Motorist Liability |
Covers bodily injury
damages to you caused by an underinsured motorist. |
Medical
Expense |
Covers medical
bills for you or your passengers resulting from an automobile
accident. |
Collision |
Covers damage to
your vehicle when it strikes or is struck by an object
other than an animal or an object propelled by another
vehicle. |
“Other
Than Collision” |
Covers damage to
your vehicle that is not considered a collision. “Other
than collision” is commonly referred to as “comprehensive.” |
You select liability
limits and deductibles. You also select collision and “other
than collision.” |
| Boats |
Boats and personal watercraft
(wave runners and jet skiis) can be insured either on your
homeowner's policy or separately. The coverage is based on
the value and the horsepower of the craft. It normally has
a deductible included. |
Recreational
Vehicles |
This coverage normally
includes snowmobiles and all-terrain-vehicles. The premiums
are based on the values of the vehicles and the sizes of their
engines. Your driving record will also be taken into consideration. |
| Motorcycles |
This coverage is not
only for the standard motorcylce, but also for mopeds, mini-bikes,
motor scooters and motorized bicycles. Not all companies will
offer this coverage. |
| Umbrella |
This policy provides
excess liability coverage over other liability insurance carried
by the insured. The basic policy protection starts at one
million and is available in higher amounts. |
